We aren't the only people with an interest in radio who are coming to EMFCamp. In previous years there have been several independent villages each with their own goals. For 2020 it would be nice if we could co-ordinate our activities and maybe pool resources. AMSAT-UK are much more organised than us and already have GB4EMF special event call assigned for the weekend. We have asked if it will be possible to share that call with a common logbook for contacts. If anyone else from other villages is reading this and knows they will be doing amateur radio related things, please get in touch to see if we can help each other.

* Minumim Viable QO100 narrowband station
* 70cms analogue voice repeater GB3MF (Being organised by M0TRY [https://www.ukrepeater.net/my_vetting.php?id=4163 application has been made] for for a frequency allocation, we're waiting for a response)
* Minimum Viable QO100 narrowband station (if M0PLL finishes it in time, it will be a small and cheap way to have a station capable of a voice contact via QO100, to demonstrate that you don't need dishes the size of Goonhilly for it)

* Foundation Exams
* Foundation Exams (we are hoping to run Foundation exams from a tent at EMF Camp. Watch this space for more information if you have always intended on getting an amateur radio licence but have never got around to it)
* APRS igate and digipeater (being organised by M0PLL, the same setup as was at EMF Camp 2018)

In 2018 Paul M0PLL brought an APRS digipeater, but it got minimal use. I *could* bring it again, but currently have no plans for things to do with it so might leave it at home. Let me know if you'd find it useful.

About Us

The Amateur Radio Village is a very welcoming set of radio nerds who are at EMFCamp to demonstrate radio to people. If you are also a radio nerd and want to camp in a village to be sociable, feel free to pitch your tent near us. It would be helpful if you could add your name to the list below so we know if we need to request a larger village area from the organisers. Even if you're not camping with us, drop by for a chat and see what we're doing.

Collaboration with other Radio related Villages

We aren't the only people with an interest in radio who are coming to EMFCamp. In previous years there have been several independent villages each with their own goals. For 2020 it would be nice if we could co-ordinate our activities and maybe pool resources.

AMSAT-UK are much more organised than us and already have GB4EMF special event call assigned for the weekend for a scheduled contact with the International Space Station. Unfortunately, due to the unique requirements the space station contact has, we won't be able to share that call and have applied for our own, hopefully the same GB2EMF which we had last time.

If anyone else from other villages is reading this and knows they will be doing amateur radio related things, please get in touch to see if we can help each other.

What are we doing?

TODO: Add to this list and give more detail on these items:

  • 70cms analogue voice repeater GB3MF (Being organised by M0TRY application has been made for for a frequency allocation, we're waiting for a response)
  • Minimum Viable QO100 narrowband station (if M0PLL finishes it in time, it will be a small and cheap way to have a station capable of a voice contact via QO100, to demonstrate that you don't need dishes the size of Goonhilly for it)
  • NVIS (or better) HF
  • EMFHub
  • Foundation Exams (we are hoping to run Foundation exams from a tent at EMF Camp. Watch this space for more information if you have always intended on getting an amateur radio licence but have never got around to it)
