Electromagnetic Field 2014 Workshops

Workshops are interactive events where you are expected to participate, learn, teach, and have a lot of fun. They range from lockpicking, soldering, debating, pentesting to robotics, making chiptunes and more.

Workshop Name: Example workshop

Participants: 5 to 10

Estimated Duration: 1 hour

Description: This workshop will involve water, unicorns and lots of blinkenlights.

Prerequisites: No special skills needed, but bring swimwear!

  • More blacksmithery (as per 2012)
  • How to make a Klein bottle
  • Green woodworking ([this sort of thing])
  • The headhacking guy
  • How to butcher a rabbit - This is controversial and is not a workshop some people would like to see. It is likely to put some people off attending EMFCamp.
  • Stained glass
  • Knitting
  • Jewelry making (silver clay etc.)

Workshop Name: Glass Fusing

Participants: 4 max at the same time, will do the workshop continously during the festival

Estimated Duration: 1 hour Description:

GlassFusing jewellery in a microwave oven;

from small clourful pieces of shiney glass you will make a broche, or earings or a nice cabochon, wich will melt to a solid shape at 900 degrees Celsius in a special microwave oven


Prerequisites: No special skills needed, but bring a rainbow. age requirement, 7 and up,


Workshop Name: Goldsmithing, The One Ring

Participants: 4 max at the same time, will do the workshop continously during the festival

Estimated Duration: 2 to 3 hours (depending on skill)

Description: goldsmithing/forging a silver or golden ring from a piece of metal, with a nice hammered and faceted look

Prerequisites: No very special skills needed, but bring a unicorn and I will talk you through all steps... (even my mum can do it...)

Workshop Name: IPv6 Beginners Workshop

Participants: up to 8, no more, sorry! please signup (signup process tbd)

Estimated Duration: 2-3 hours

Description: We will discover the new Internet Protocol learning about its basics, features and general handling. This workshop is targeted at beginners. Please bring a computer with VirtualBox installed. A basic knowledge about the Internet and IPv4 is recommended. Please also consider attending the advanced IPv6 workshop, if you liked the beginners course.

Prerequisites: Please download virtual machine images from $tbd _before_ going to the workshop!


Workshop Name: IPv6 Advanced Users Workshop

Participants: up to 8, no more, sorry! please signup (signup process tbd)

Estimated Duration: 2-3 hours

Description: We will dig deeper into the new Internet Protocol learning about its advanced features, about transition technologies and security issues. This workshop is targeted at advanced users or people who attended the beginners course. The workshop is based on the book IPv6-Workshop and further material from the speakers work as a consultant. A basic knowledge about IPv6 is required. Please also consider attending the beginners course if you do not have a basic understanding of IPv6 yet. Please bring a computer with VirtualBox installed.

Prerequisites: Please download virtual machine images from $tbd _before_ going to the workshop!


Workshop Name: Live coding music with Tidal

Contact: Alex McLean

Participants: 8 across maybe two workshops, so 16 in total

Estimated Duration: 2-3 hours

Description: Explore live coding of music using Tidal and possibly other quick-to-pick-up environments.

Prerequisites: Bring a laptop and a pair of headphones. No prior experience with programming or music required. If you have macos or linux could install tidal in advance if you wanted, otherwise I'll provide a snapshot which will run on any PC or Mac (inside virtualbox, so safe).


Workshop Name: Making rope from nettles

Contact: Trotmaster

Participants: As many as you like (assuming a ready supply of stinging nettles)

Estimated Duration: 1 hour

Description: A chance to make learn how to pick nettles and turn them into string which can then be turned into rope. I need a new pair of laces for my boots so I will be working on those, but also guiding attendees on the steps they need to take to make their own .

Prerequisites: Maybe a pair of gloves if you're not a fan of getting stung.
